To be successful in life, everybody must taste defeat as well, but never get discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.
I always talk about success and prosperity, let’s talk about failure today, because this the thing that we get to see a lot, as well. Which super-successful person do you know hasn’t failed countless times? They all do. After all, the faster you run, the harder you fall. To make us feel better, motivational speakers come up with quotes like “failure is an event, not the person.”
And they say things like:
1. Don't make it personal.
2. Take stock, learn and adapt.
We’ve all heard that childish example that Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times while he was inventing the light bulb. He was quoted as saying, "I have found 10,000 ways something won’t work. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.”
3. Stop dwelling on it.
4. Forget the need for approval of others. Stop worrying about what others will think.
Honestly, that all sounds good but it is just motivational stuff. Your logical mind knows these things, but your emotional mind doesn’t think like this! Just about all the time, we think with our emotional brain, not our logical!
My advice on failure is two-fold:
Number 1: Bounce back quickly. Everybody falls but the mark of a truly successful person is that they bounce back. They don’t waste even more time being mopey and throwing a pity party.
Number 2: Learn from it and be self-aware of the same situation coming up again or even remotely similar situations. Making the same mistake in life, in any shape and form? That’s not smart!
Mother nature, you know, she can be a handful. She’ll keep hitting you in the face with the same types of problems, till you learn from them. When you’ve finally learned, it’s called wisdom.
So the truly successful people bounce back quickly and rarely make the same mistake twice!
